How is the course assessed?

There are 2 exams, one is a traditional written exam (2 hours) on using ICT. 

Unit 2 – is a 10 hour practical exam (over one week) on the computers in supervised conditions to develop a solution to a brief (building a database). 

The rest of the course is continuous assessment including written assignments, practical activities such as building a standalone computer system, creating computer games, observations and presentations. 

What is the average class size?

For the single qualification we have approx. 18-20 students, with double we have 7 or 8 on average. 

Are the teachers specialists in the subject area?

We have 2 very experienced teachers to teach Btec IT – Mrs White is our Btec specialist, and Mrs Clement (the Head of Dept) leads on databases and programming and is the Btec IV assessor. 

We also link with Sheffield Hallam university in masterclasses. 

How successful have previous students been in this subject?

For the past 7 years we have 100% Dist/Dist* 

This is our first year with exams so no results as yet. 

We are extremely successful with the coursework side! 

What other subjects compliment this course?

English – as often a lot of written work is involved 

And more ICT – go for the double if you just can’t get enough of ICT! 

Will studying this subject allow me to go to university? 

Yes – many of our students go on to do ICT in numerous degrees – from Cyber criminology, to IT networking, Programmers, Teachers, Game makers 

Is the point score the same as an A Level course?

We are graded Dist – Pass  - a distinction/distinction * is the same as an A/A*

Cyber security, computer forensics, programmers, game makers, web designers, animators, network managers, teachers plus many more!
