Welcome to the Forge Valley Curriculum Hub
At Forge Valley School, our curriculum is designed to empower every pupil to become a confident, knowledgeable and socially responsible young person, prepared to thrive in an ever‑changing world. We believe that education should open doors, raise aspirations and equip pupils with the academic foundations, personal qualities and cultural capital needed for lifelong success.
Ambition
We aim to cultivate high expectations for all pupils. Our curriculum is academically rigorous, broad and balanced, enabling every learner—regardless of background or starting point—to develop the knowledge and skills they need to pursue ambitious future pathways. We want pupils to discover their potential, challenge themselves intellectually and take pride in their achievements.
Endeavour
At Forge Valley, we nurture resilience, curiosity and determination. Our curriculum is thoughtfully sequenced so that learning builds progressively over time, allowing pupils to deepen their understanding and master essential concepts. We encourage pupils to take ownership of their learning, engage actively in lessons and apply themselves with commitment and perseverance.
Success
We believe that success takes many forms. Our curriculum ensures that pupils leave Forge Valley equipped not only with strong academic qualifications, but also with the personal attributes and character skills that support them throughout life. We provide enriching experiences—cultural, creative, sporting and community‑based—that broaden horizons and help pupils understand their place in society.
Each subject team creates a curriculum with defined learning journeys, ensuring a logical sequence of content that builds strong foundational knowledge before introducing complex ideas. Regular opportunities for review and deeper understanding help retain and embed learning over time.
Excellent teaching is essential for delivering the curriculum. Teachers employ evidence-based strategies to simplify complex concepts, set high expectations, and offer clear explanations. Adaptive teaching ensures all students, including those with SEND or additional needs, can access the curriculum and progress effectively.
Strong literacy underpins success across the curriculum. Pupils engage with ambitious, subject‑specific vocabulary, high‑quality texts, and opportunities for extended writing. Reading is explicitly taught and supported, ensuring pupils are equipped to understand challenging content and express themselves confidently.
Forge Valley is a community school where every pupil matters. Our curriculum reflects our commitment to inclusion, ensuring that all learners, including those with additional needs or barriers to learning, have equitable access to challenging, meaningful content. We adapt our teaching to meet individual needs while maintaining high expectations for all. We believe every pupil has the right to access a rich and challenging curriculum. Teachers work closely with the SEND team to ensure that appropriate support, scaffolding, and differentiation are embedded into classroom practice. Learning environments are calm, structured, and nurturing, enabling all pupils to thrive.
We see the curriculum as more than a timetable: it is the totality of experiences we provide. Through trips, clubs, leadership opportunities, careers education and our pastoral programme, we develop pupils who are articulate, socially aware and ready to make a positive contribution to their community and the wider world.
Our curriculum prepares pupils for successful progression into further education, training and employment. We ensure that every pupil develops the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to navigate their next steps, whether that’s academic study, vocational pathways or the world of work.
Assessment at Forge Valley is designed to enhance teaching through a balanced approach. Teachers employ formative methods such as questioning, live feedback, low-stakes quizzes, and reflective tasks to identify and address misconceptions quickly. Summative assessments are strategically spaced to aid retention and give students exam-style experience without added pressure.
Our school curriculum specifically addresses the Equality Act 2010 and the Special Educational Needs and Disability Regulations 2014.
