After a fantastic level of interest and thoughtful input from our sixth form historians, the votes have now been counted — and we’re pleased to confirm the winning option.
Our 2026/27 Coursework Focus
For the 2026/27 academic year, we will be studying The Quest for Political Stability: Germany 1871–1991. This rich and wide‑ranging topic explores the dramatic political, social, and economic transformations that shaped modern Germany, from unification through to the end of the Cold War.
Mr Hardy will be leading this coursework pathway, bringing his expertise and enthusiasm for German history to guide students through more than a century of pivotal change.
A Trip to Berlin
To deepen our understanding of this period, we will be offering students the opportunity to travel with us to Berlin, where they will visit key historic sites that played a defining role in Germany’s journey toward — and struggles with — political stability.
The visit will include locations connected to:
-
Imperial and Weimar Germany
-
The rise of National Socialism
-
The division of Germany after 1945
-
Life in East and West Berlin during the Cold War
-
The fall of the Berlin Wall and reunification
This trip will give students the chance to experience history where it happened, enriching their coursework with first‑hand insight and context.
Looking Ahead
We’re thrilled to be offering such a compelling and meaningful topic for our A Level historians, and we’re looking forward to working closely with students as they begin exploring this fascinating period.
